Samsung Engineering was awarded a high-density
polyethylene plant order contract for US$ 229 million from OPaL (ONGC
Petro Additions Limited), a subsidiary of India?s national oil company ONGC (Oil
& Natural Gas Corporation Limited). The plant will be built in the special
economic zone of Dahej, located in the state of Gujarat and is set to produce
340,000 tonnes per year of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Samsung Engineering
will handle the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning on a
lump-sum turn-key basis with the completion date set for August 2013.
Samsung Engineering?s executive vice president of the Hydrocarbon Business
Kwangyong Chun said, "This is the 8th project in India to be awarded to Samsung
Engineering. The new project can be credited towards the success of the on-going
ONGC ethylene plant, with a capacity of 110,000 tonnes of ethylene per year.
Currently, in the construction phase, the project has earned praise from both
clients ONGC and OPaL."
Since entering the Indian market for the first time in 1997, the company has
successfully completed a range of quality projects with top national companies
such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Indian Oil Corp Ltd. In 2005, the
linear alkyl benzene (LAB) project was completed in just 24 months, which proved
the company?s project management excellence to the client, IOCL.
Samsung Engineering India was founded in 2006 for the purpose of being an
independent Engineering center from Samsung Engineering headquarters in Korea.
Since then, the company has employed over 600 Indian staff, from various
disciplines such as engineering, procurement, construction, and project
management.
