Activities carried out at the plant site of Divi?s Laboratories Limited, a Schedule 2 chemical facility at Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh, have been found to be consistent and in order according to the Annual Declarations on Past Activities (ADPA), 2010.

The Hague-based Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) recently carried out inspection of the firm. The plant site is having 10 semi-open structure which are used for manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and intermediates. This is a mixed plant site having OCPF and Schedule 2 activities. For Schedule 2 activities, the firm was inspected in 2010.

The inspection team carried out verification activities which consisted of physical inspection of the plant site and its common infrastructure, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) said.

The inspection team checked the relevant records for all materials related to the declared Schedule 2 chemical involved in the purchase and consumption according to the information provided in ADPA 2009, ADPA 2010 and ADPA 2011.

The inspection team also cross checked the batch production records and analytical reports as well as the purchase receipts and raw material analysis reports for these years.

"The activities carried out at the plant site were found to be consistent with the information provided in the declaration 2009-10," the DCPC said.

"Keeping all these facts in view, we may inform the NACWC to accept the preliminary findings of Schedule 2 inspection of Divi?s Laboratories Limited," it said.

To create awareness among the stakeholders on the obligations under CWC, and the CWC Act and to improve the quality of declarations by the industry, a series of awareness generation programmes are held at various locations in the country with a concentration of chemical industry relevant to CWC.

The DCPC is responsible for submission of industry declarations, facilitation of inspections by OPCW teams as also creating awareness in the industry about its obligations under CWC. Certain toxic chemicals and their precursors are covered under the ambit of the CWC, of which India is a signatory.
