Pertamina will continue striving to improve performance through increased efficiency, innovation, and a strict prioritization of safety across operations
PT Pertamina (Persero) is advancing its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency in line with the government’s Asta Cita vision through the launch of the Multistage Fracturing (MSF) Project. This initiative strengthens oil and gas production under PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) and positions Pertamina as the first company in Indonesia to apply MSF technology, opening new opportunities to optimize national energy reserves more efficiently.
The Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, expressed strong appreciation for Pertamina’s pioneering achievement. He noted that the successful implementation of MSF technology demonstrates Indonesia’s ability to master upstream oil and gas technologies that were previously dominated by international companies. Djoko reaffirmed SKK Migas’ full support for this strategic step, which enhances production while reinforcing domestic technological capability.
During a working visit to the MSF project on November 12, 2025, in Riau, Pertamina’s President Director, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s mandate to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), SKK Migas, and Pertamina to continue collaborating and boosting national oil and gas production to achieve energy self-sufficiency. Simon noted that the government continues to encourage Pertamina to enhance energy security and sovereignty by accelerating upstream production growth.
He added that Pertamina will continue striving to improve performance through increased efficiency, innovation, and a strict prioritization of safety across operations. He also stressed the importance of collaboration with multiple stakeholders to achieve the nation’s energy goals and expressed appreciation for the dedication of Pertamina’s upstream teams, especially at PHR, as well as the contributions of young Indonesian professionals driving national oil and gas achievements.
Pertamina Deputy Director, Oki Muraza, highlighted that the MSF project has successfully reduced costs and increased the efficiency of drilling and well completion. He explained that following the success of the first MSF well in 2024, PHR continued development this year using more advanced technologies, including explosive perforation and a one-run plug-and-perf system with smart coiled tubing. This configuration, the first of its kind in Indonesia, marks a breakthrough that significantly improves operational efficiency in terms of time, logistics, and cost.
Oki added that the MSF project has strong potential for replication across the Pertamina Group in support of national energy self-sufficiency and praised the cross-functional teamwork that enabled the success of the project. He emphasized that the achievement reflects the capability and innovative spirit of Indonesia’s young talent in mastering global-standard petroleum technologies.
MSF is an advanced technology that increases well productivity by creating multiple fractures along horizontal wells, enabling maximum oil and gas recovery from a single well and significantly boosting production.
